Music lovers and musicians are often disappointed with the sound of music through their hearing instruments. Live music is especially challenging as it differs significantly from speech.
Consequently, the hearing instruments must process these sounds differently. Many hearing instrument technologies, however, limit incoming signals to 95dB, a threshold adequate for speech but not for the higher peaks of live music. Because of such a limit these hearing instruments unnecessarily compress the very loud music segments; consequently, live music signals are degraded and distorted.
