Problems streaming sound from your iPhone or iPad to your hearing aids

1

Set up how calls and audio are routed.

On your iPhone, you may need to set up how calls and other types of audio are normally routed.

Go to > Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Audio Routing.

Select Call Audio for calls, or Media Audio for other audio.

Select your preferred routing from the list of options.

  • Choose Always Hearing Devices if you always want your selected audio type to be routed to your hearing aids
  • Choose Never Hearing Device if you never want your selected audio type to be routed to your hearing aids
  • Choose Automatic to enable your iPhone to route your selected audio type automatically
2

Ensure Control Nearby Devices is enabled.

Go to > Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Control Nearby Devices.

Ensure Control Nearby Devices is enabled.

Why does my iPhone or iPad keep disconnecting from my hearing aids?

This can happen for different reasons.

Ensure you have the latest version of the Bernafon App.

If you use more than one Apple device with your hearing aids, it is important that your Apple devices all have the same iOS version installed, and they all use the same Apple ID. This will help to avoid problems with streaming.

If you use more than one Apple device with your hearing aids, try disabling Bluetooth® on the device that you are not using.

  • Go to > Settings > Bluetooth.
  • Switch Bluetooth off.

Note: Bluetooth will automatically re-enable itself on your iOS devices the following day.

Using multiple Apple devices with your hearing aids

You can control and send audio to your hearing aids from more than one iOS device – for example both an iPhone and an iPad – if your hearing aids are paired with both devices. You also need to be logged in to all iOS devices with the same Apple ID.

Switching between your devices should happen automatically when you start streaming sound on one of your devices.

How to switch between iOS devices during streaming to your hearing aids

When you want to go from using your iPhone to using your iPad or Mac with your hearing aids, or vice versa, you can transfer the active connection by simply starting to stream sound on the device you want to use. You might need to press play a few times.

Problems with using multiple Apple devices

If you can’t switch from one device to another, or are having issues with changing between iOS devices, the following actions may help.

1

Enable Audio Handoff to switch between devices.

Ensure the function 'Audio Handoff' is enabled.

Go to > Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Audio Handoff.

Check Audio Handoff is switched on.

2

Close the app except on the device you want to use.

Close the Bernafon App on both devices and make sure it is not running in the background on either device.

Start streaming sound on the device you want to use (you might need to press play a few times).

Open the Bernafon App again on the device you are using.

Why is only one hearing aid connected during streaming?

Sometimes, audio streaming is only successfully transferred to one hearing aid, or one hearing aid appears to be disconnected.

This can happen because you have multiple iOS devices connected to your hearing aids.

Disable Bluetooth on the device that you are not currently using with your hearing aids. This will allow the device that you are using to successfully take over the connection to both hearing aids.

Go to > Settings > Bluetooth.

Switch Bluetooth off.

Note: Bluetooth will automatically re-enable itself on your iOS devices the following day.

Unpair from other devices

If you prefer to only use one device with your hearing aids, you can unpair from the other devices.
